How Breathwork Got Me Quoted in Eat This, Not That! And How It Can Help You Lose Belly Fat Too

Coach Kisha Pickford - Certified Holistic Weight Loss Coach

When I started Ample Health & Wellness, I made it my mission to help women over 40 lose weight in a way that’s sustainable, hormone-smart, and rooted in whole-body wellness – not quick fixes. So, you can imagine how excited I was when Eat This, Not That! reached out to feature me in their article on how intentional breathwork can support belly fat loss. 🙌🏾

🙏🏾 A big thank you to the editorial team at Eat This, Not That! for featuring my perspective and helping shine a light on the power of stress reduction for women’s health after 40.
This feature reminds me why I started coaching in the first place, and why I’ll keep speaking up for the mind-body side of weight loss.

The Connection Between Stress, Cortisol & Belly Fat

Here’s what I shared in the article:

“Breathwork doesn’t increase resting metabolic rate directly,” I told Eat This, Not That!. “But it shifts the body from ‘fight or flight’ to ‘rest and digest,’ which enhances insulin sensitivity, reduces cravings, and supports hormonal balance – especially in women over 50.”

High cortisol (your body’s main stress hormone) can promote belly fat storage, disrupt sleep, and increase emotional eating. That’s why I teach women how to lower cortisol naturally through things like breathwork, movement, mindset, and meals.

The 10-Second Breathing Method I Recommend

This is the same breathwork practice I shared in the article, and it only takes a few moments:

  1. Inhale slowly through your nose for 4 seconds
  2. Hold for 2 seconds
  3. Exhale gently through your mouth for 4 seconds
  4. Repeat for 3–5 cycles
  5. Use it 2–3 times per day (especially in moments of stress, before meals, or at bedtime)

This simple habit supports your nervous system and metabolism, and when done consistently, it helps women feel calmer, sleep better, and manage hunger with more ease.
